The Many Sides of West Herr

Diversity, Honesty and Camaraderie Alive At Buffalo Auto Dealer

Today I discussed the merits of the internet with a volunteer fireman, heard tales of house renovation from an automotive technician and learned sales techniques from a father of six.  Just a typical day working for the West Herr Auto Group.

With 15 dealerships and approxiamtely 1100 employees, you'll find just about every walk of life at any given location.  While the personalities vary, the general attitude of courtesy and honesty is the same.

"This company has great faith in it's people.  It's amazing," said Mike Wilkinson, sales consultant at West Herr Ford, Lincoln and Mercury in Amherst, NY

Long time employee Mike Wilkinson

Wilkinson has been with West Herr for 17 years.  He has been in the automotive sales industry for close to 30.  He is a father of six and coaches baseball for his children.  Wilkinson says West Herr offers him the flexibility to balance his family life.  He's not the only employee with this sentiment.

"It's amazing what this company does for you that they dont have to do," said Dennis Albrecht, a techninican from West Herr Ford in Hamburg.

While Wilkinson leads a prototypical suburban family life, the humble Albrecht prefers to renovate his house with his weekends.  Despite the size of the company, Albrecht praised the owners' efforts in getting to know all their employees.

"I saw (vice president) John Wabick at Wegman's, and he made it a point to say hello and ask me about my family, " Albrecht said.  "He knew my name and I wasn't even wearing my name tag."

Whether its the oldest dealership in the group or a small body shop, the open communication remains unchanged.   A small sample of the massive lot at West Herr Ford in Hamburg

"I love the respect and freedom you get to do your job around here," said Joe Steinert, an employee of the West Herr Body Shop in Hamburg.  Steinert is also a volunteer firefighter in Langford, NY; a clear sign of his dedication to the Western New York community.

As a new employee, fitting in and learning your surroundings is often the toughest challenge.  After touring just a few of the 15 West Herr dealerships in Buffalo, it's clear this is a place where people thrive long-term.

Cheer For The Cure Fundraiser

Recent Event Aids In Fight Against Juvenlie Diabetes

A sold out crowd filled University at Buffalo's Alumni Arena on Sunday to support Cheer For The Cure, a cheerleading competion aimed at raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

The JDRF reported a record-setting turnout and a large increase in donations.  Cheer For The Cure is expected to raise over $30,000, up from the $21,000 raised at last year's event.   Spectator fees went up almost $5000 from 2009.

"In my opinion, moving the Cheer to UB was a great decision," said Alexandra Kobza, JDRF Special Events Coordinator.

Kobza sent a special thank you to all those who "braved a very long day of the Cheer."  132 teams particpated in the competition that was split between morning and afternoon sessions.

West Herr was proud to sponsor the event.  Tony Helta, General Manager of West Herr Ford in Hamburg, recently joined the JDRF Board of Directors.

"We'd also like to give a big thankyou to Tony Helta," Kobza said.
