Ram Unveils a Concept Truck You’ll Need a Garage Extension For

RAM’S LONG-HAULER OFFERS EXTRA COMFORT AND SPACE FOR LONG TRIPS

Well, you certainly wouldn’t have an easy time fitting it in your garage. The Car and Driver blog reports that Chrysler’s Ram brand Long-Hauler is only 24 feet long, with a 197.4 inch wheelbase – that’s long enough that most vehicles on the road would fit between its wheels.

But, there’s no need to worry about where to park this beast yet because it’s only a concept truck. Still, it’s an interesting ride to think about.

According to the Car and Driver blog, Chrysler sees its new prototype as a “dream vehicle for hauling, range, and comfort.” Based on a Class 5 Ram 5500 chassis cab, this truck has a huge passenger compartment, an 8-foot box, and an auxiliary fuel tank. There’s also an option to add a third tank, to bring your fuel capacity up to a total of 170 gallons! Once full, you’d be carrying more than 1,000 pounds of fuel, on top of the 9,300 pounds of truck.

Not to be forgotten, the truck offers a luxurious interior, with leather seats, power foot rests for rear passengers, and a refrigerator and set of tray tables that sit between the two rear seats. Passengers enjoy 115-volt and 12-volt power outlets and Wi-Fi connectivity, as well.

While Ram has said that the Long-Hauler is just a concept for now, if it were to be available on the market, it sure wouldn’t be cheap. It would have to be priced over $40,000. Not to mention the fact that at current diesel prices, it would cost more than $700 to fill! However, Autoblog.com points out that the 170 gallons of fuel will keep you going for about 1,600 miles before you need to refill.

Ram will be touring the beast about the country in the coming months to measure consumer interest, and we can only wait and see if enough people are excited by this huge truck to get it on the market.

The Buzz About Chrysler

Automaker's Superbowl Ad Showing Big Returns

As we all know, the advertisements during the Super Bowl are almost as much fun as the game.  We all know how expensive ads are too.  So Chrysler took a big gamble running a 2 minute ad as opposed to the traditional 30 second spot.  Lucky for them, their "imported from Detroit" spot worked.

First off for those who missed the ad, it showesd the rustbelt landscape of Detroit coupled with hometown rapper Eminem.  Here it is:

As of this morning, the commercial was the most searched item on all of Google.  On Kelley Blue Book's site, Chrysler saw a 213% increase in traffic.  213%!  Now that's an ad at work.

“This 2-minute long Chrysler ad during the Super Bowl wasn’t so much a promotion for a new model; it was an editorial in defense of a beleaguered Detroit and, perhaps, a withering philosophy of what America is about,” wrote Rick Rojas, of the Los Angeles Times. “Chrysler seems to say that Detroit isn’t dead, and maybe the spirit of Americans making things isn’t dead either.”

The ad also showed the new Chrysler 200 and used the phrase "imported from Detroit."  No word yet on if the ad actually halped move cars, but it's clear it at least got people talking.  Really, isn't that what ads are all about?

So we'll have the Chrysler 200.  Why not stop by West Herr Chrysler and give it a whirl?

Entertainment On The Go

Chrysler Town and Country Equipped To Satisfy

On a long drive, or even a short one, passengers want to be entertained.  "I spy" and 20 questions will only get you so far, especially with children in the car.  Luckily, the Chrysler Town and Country minivan offers options for stimulation well beyond the standard fare.

The Town and Country offers a dual screen DVD system (second and third rows) that includes Sirius/XM satellite TV, wireless headphone sets and a three zone climate control system, ensuring everybody remains comfortable on the journey.

Speaking of comfort, take a look at Chrysler's "Swivel and Go" seating to the left. You can turn the second row seats around to face the third row, creating space for conversation or games.

This feature earned the Town a Country on CNN's "Best Back Seats" list.   Here's what they had to say:

"Where the Chrysler Town and Country truly shines is in utlity and entertainment."

In terms of safety and navigation, the town and country shows up strong as well.

Chrysler has fitted its MyGIG multimedia system with satellite navigation and Sirius real-time traffic updates, plus a built in back up camera. The optional Blind Spot Motoring and Cross Traffic alert system, with orange indicators that flash in the side view mirrors to warn of approaching vehicles and nearby objects will make navigation far easier, especially in unfamiliar areas.

While the Town and Country is indeed a minivan, it doesn't have to carry the unfair labels given to the segment.  A few recent stories and studies point to the changing demographics of minivan owners and the different approach automakers are taking to them.

"I think minivans are making a come back," said Jill Wheeler, Chrysler minivan owner. "the more I notice them now I see lots of younger families driving them."
