People love new car smell, but what if there was a smell that was tied to specific cars? Much like a design or handling feature, Ford is looking at ways to make their vehicles distinct. Instead of the standard ways, they're looking to appealing to drivers' olfactory senses.

Ford is on a mission to identify that certain scent that will become part of Ford's brand around the world. The company wants every car it makes to look, feel and even smell like a Ford.

"Our ultimate goal is to find a scent that produces a sense of well-being inside a Ford," Derrick Kuzak, Ford's VP for global product development, recently told Forbes.com. While Kuzak acknowledged that some might say this is extreme, he believes that attention to detail is key to customer satisfaction.

Ford has appointed a "smell panel" of five engineers to sift through odors and determine the "Ford scent." The engineers assess odors emitted by anything found in a car; floor mats, seats fabrics, air bag covers and much more. How's that for a job?The "smell jury"

Ford is also considering the regional and multi cultural implications of smell branding. They've even assigned Linda Scmalz from their body interior materials engineering to look into odor differences across regions.

"What smells bad to us does not always smell bad to people in other parts of the world," Schmalz says.

With automakers constantly offering customizable options, imagine the implications of this smell branding. Customer may, at some point, be able to choose a smell for their own car. But lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Before Ford figures out their smell of choice, come by West Herr Ford of Hamburg or Amherst for the latest and best Ford products.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://blog.westherr.com/journal/2010/8/31/nissan-juke-believe-the-hype.html"><rss:title>Nissan Juke: Believe The Hype</rss:title><rss:link>http://blog.westherr.com/journal/2010/8/31/nissan-juke-believe-the-hype.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Featured Cars New Nissan News Nissan Buffalo West Herr Nissan juke new cars</dc:subject>

Pre Orders for Unique Crossover Outpacing Projections

"Some vehicles just catch your eye, like the new Nissan Juke, which seemed to draw a crowd wherever we went during a recent drive around Vancouver," said auto columnist Paul Eisenstein, "It will certainly start a lot of conversations."

Aside from the rounded out design, one of the most noticeable features of the Juke are the headlights. The clear plastic blisters you see on the hood are the turn signals; the headlamps actually emerge from the bumper. The Juke even comes with optional foglamps mounted into the lower fascia.

"Everything about the Juke's outward appearance suggests a lively personality," said Popular Mechanics.

The Juke marks Nissan's first use of their 1.6-liter direct injected four-cylinder turbo in North America. It will be available with torque vectoring all-wheel drive in both six-speed manual form and CVT with a sport setting.

The Juke's pricing will also raise some eyebrows in a good way. Nissan says the standard package will be available for under $20,000. A fully loaded juke will be closer to $25,000.

The company’s goal, first stated in 2008, is for zero waste at half of its operations by the end of 2010. As it stands, well on their way there. According to John Bradburn, project manager for GM’s Design for Environment initiatives, 69 of the company’s plants worldwide are now landfill-free (up from 62, and 43 percent of production, in May).

"G.M. should be congratulated for an excellent result. The company is a leader,” said Larry Chalfan, founder and senior adviser of the Zero Waste Alliance,

Here are some of the recycling programs involving GM’s manufacturing operations:

Old bumpers: They’re ground up and form new air inlet panels for such cars as the Chevy Camaro, Impala and Traverse, as well as the Cadillac CTS and CTS coupe.

Worn carpets: The GMC Acadia takes the nylon and remakes it into mirror frames, fascia brackets and door handle parts.

Used water bottles: The Cadillac SRX uses bottles and milk jugs in its air conditioning and heating vent covers. The Chevy Volt uses them in baffles along with recycled tires. Recycled stuff also goes into engine fans and shrouds, splash shields and dash insulators.

Cardboard. Used material from GM’s stamping pads are made into acoustic pads for the Buick Lacrosse’s headliner. That’s a 25 to 45 percent savings for GM, and it diverts the cardboard from the landfill.

Paint sludge. This muck is one of the biggest pollutants auto plants produce, and GM is using it as filler in the making of reusable shipping containers.

The Prius is known for it's gas mileage and it's quiet driving. Toyota is looking to change the latter in the name of pedestrian safety.

Even if you arent a car person, how can you not love The Boss? Just take a look at this video and see what's got the car world buzzing:

"You're dealing with history here. The original version of this car is an icon," said Mark Fields, VP of Ford.

Ford recently revealed details and rolled out a production version of the 2012 Boss Mustang at Pebble Beach Week in Monterey, California. So far auto bloggers and writers are loving it. An Autoblog headling simply read "Ford releases additional photos of Mustang Boss 302, triggers additional drooling."

So what makes this production Boss so, well, boss? Under the hood is a dual overhead cam 5.0 liter V8, similar to the plant found in the Mustang GT. But this time it's packing 440-horsepower and 380 peak lb.-ft of torque.

Ford also pointed to multiple specific details that set The Boss apart from the already popular Mustang GT, including:

Manually-adjustable shocks and struts

Lighweight 19-inch black-alloy racing wheels

Comfort/Normal/Sport power steering modes

Short-throw, close-ratio, six-speed transmission

Thats just the beginning. We could get into details, or you can just take a look at a photo gallery yourself here.

Robert Parker, a Ford spokesman, recently told the New York Times the 2012 Boss 302 will be available next spring. Pricing details have yet to be announced.

When the time comes, West Herr Ford will be all over The Boss. Until then stop by our Hamburg or Orchard Park locations and take a look at any other car we have. Or visit us online.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://blog.westherr.com/journal/2010/8/17/go-green-and-save-green.html"><rss:title>Go Green and Save Green</rss:title><rss:link>http://blog.westherr.com/journal/2010/8/17/go-green-and-save-green.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Green Nissan leaf Service ffuel economy save money</dc:subject>

Government Site Dedicated To Drivers and Environment Alike

Everyone wants to save money. With Fueleconomy.gov you can do save money and be eco-friendly all at once.

"I check this site everyday, it's a great resource on how you can make your overall driving experience better for you and the environment," said Mark Zeisz, head of service for the West Herr Automotive Group.

Not only can you track gas prices in any area but the site actually has a Frequently Asked Questions section about gas prices throughout recent history and trend prediction. Take a look at one diagram (right) in particular concerning what money paid for gas actually pays for.

One other benefit is you can find potential tax credits. The government gives out tax incentives on your purchase of a new hybrid, plug-in hybrid, lean-burn, alternative fuel, or electric vehicle. Right now there are multiple credits including incentives for plug in hybrids such as the soon to be released Chevy Volt and Nissan LEAF.

Aside from tax credits, fueleconomy.gov offers all drivers tips on how they can save money right away, including something simple like altering their driving style. Here's a sample:

Drive Sensibly
Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) wastes gas. It can lower your gas mileage by 33 percent at highway speeds and by 5 percent around town. Sensible driving is also safer for you and others, so you may save more than gas money.
