Siri In Your Car: A Reality
Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 10:36AM Multiple Automakers Confirm Interest In Apple's Siri Technology
So you've probably seen the Zooey Deschanel, John Malkovich and Samuel L Jackson ads on TV enough to know what Apple's Siri can do. What's coming around the corner, though, is great news for car tech enthusiasts. ![]()
Yesterday, Apple reported that several automakers have signed on to implement Siri's "Eyes Free" feature in their vehicles. BMW, General Motors, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, and Audi will enable drivers to integrate Siri with their vehicle's electronics system, and access the mobile assistant just by pressing a steering wheel button.
If you're not totally familiar with Siri, here's how this benefits you: it is the simplest way to use voice commands and avoid distracted driving. You can just press the button, say "find restaurants nearby" and that's it. Siri will take care of the rest.
You will not have to enter anything manually and it is a simpler voice control system than many of the other options out there, at least in theory.
So this is all very exciting, and we can't wait to check it out. Stay tuned to your Buffalo car dealer for all the latest news in auto technology.
