This weekend, most of us will be traveling in some fashion. Statistically, it may even be more than 50 miles. So while plenty of us are skilled travel vets, it never hurts to keep a few helpful travel tips in mind.
Fuel Up- Seems obvious, but vital. Don't do the "oh I'll just put half in it" thing. Fill the tank up, because you never know if you'll end up in heavy traffic or something. Also check your fluids and tire pressures.
Be Prepared- Get those supplies ready. Your basic tools, a flashlight, water, snacks, etc. You can never be too prepared.
Prep those kids- This ones for the parents. Get all those supplies: DVDs, snacks, music or anything else to keep them occupied.
Pet Travel: Be sure to secure your pets, either with harnesses and seat belts or by placing them in a crate. Animals can be a dangerous distraction when driving and physical threat in an accident, should they travel about the cabin or escape onto a busy motorway.
Don't Be Distracted: Cell phones and driving don’t mix, so if you need to send a message or make a call, hand your phone to a passenger or pull over. It’s not worth risking your life or others on the road.
Also check out or recent blog post on how to save some gas, and therefore money, when you drive.
Simple but never bad things to remember. On behalf of West Herr we'd like to wish everyone a happy holiday weekend!
