Facebook In Your Car

Mercedes Looks To Bring Social Site Into Autos

We've heard about how in-car infotainment systems are adding certain elements of social networking sites, but Mercedes wants to take it a step further.

This week at CES, the automaker will unveil a special version of Facebook designed for cars.  In case we didn't check Facebook enough, now we can do it on the drive.

Reuters reports that the Mercedes Daimler AG will feature a stripped down version of Facabook designed to feature location of friends and businesses.

"Now that cars have screens that are intelligent, you would expect that more and more car manufacturers will want to make those screens capable of allowing people to connect with their friends and take advantage of the social context that comes along with that," said Facebook's Dan Rose in an interview.

Most importantly, Mercedes promises it will be safe.  They say any activity that requires typing will be disabled while the car is motion.

Thats just the tip of the iceberg, stay tuned to CES updates this week for the full unveil.  Or follow us on Twitter as we'll be updating innovations like this.

Also remember to visit Mercedes-Benz of Rochester online or in person.
