The 3D Car Ride

Company In Talks To Add 3D Display in Cars

Seems like we cant go a day without hearing about some new, fascinating technological advancement in auto entertainment.  Good news for you, the consumer, right? Today's latest find- 3D screens in cars.

Autoblog reported today that 3D technology company MasterImage is close to securing a deal with certain airlines and automakers about installing 3D screens in aircrafts and cars.

No glasses would be necessary.

“We weren’t looking at (airlines and car makers) initially,” said Roy Taylor, executive vp and GM of 3D display at MasterImage. “We were focusing on smartphones and tablets, but there turned out to be strong interest.”

Taylor told the Hollywood Reporter that aircraft design cycles are not as quick as smartphones and tablets, and he estimated that it might be 2 1/2 to 3 years before 3D could become a part of air travel. Cars may not take as long.

Now don't expect any 3D mapping or anything like that just yet.  MasterImage's main goal would be to put 3D TVs for rear seat entertainment.  So kids in the back won't just be watching regular movies, but 3D ones.  What kid wouldn't want that?

One interesting note, by the time this is ready to go, most cars will have Wi-Fi.  Taylor says users will be able to download movies and games to use with the 3D display.

This could be part of a drastic revolution of in car technology. We'll keep you up to date when we find out more.
