Talk To Your Car? You Are Not Alone
Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 10:42AM We've all done it at least once, let's be honest. You're in your car and something is going great, or maybe wrong. You talk to your car. You may yell at it, you may thank it, or you just may vent to it. Turns out, more people talk to their cars than you might think. ![]()
According to Confused.com, one of the UK’s largest and most popular price comparison sites for car insurance, the results of a new research study show that 33 percent of car owners in have daily conversations with their vehicles.
Keep in mind that's "daily conversations." Factor in the occasional conversation and I'd bet that cracks 50%. Too bad when we talked to our cars, they didn't talk back with useful information like K.I.T.T from the old series Knight Rider.
Beyond talking to cars, the same survey revealed that people even name their cars. We all know someone who's done that.
“A majority of car owners feel the need to give their car a distinctive name, usually an affectionate title that expresses how they feel about their car and how they regard it as being different from everyone else’s, said Peter Collett, psychologist and author of 'Driving Passion – The Psychology of The Car.'
"The drive to individualize one’s car in this way is very widespread and it also lays the foundation for how people treat their cars," he continued.
Collett even suggested that naming your car can reduce the risk of road incidents.
So there you have it. Go ahead and talk to your car, or even give it a name. It might help you out at some point.
