The Prius Family

Toyota Focusing on Multiple Versions of Famous Hybrid

To use a poker term, Toyota is just about going "all in" on the Prius. Toyota will launch multiple different cars with the Prius name, what they're labeling a "family" of Priuses.

“We could eventually see a point where [various models dubbed] Prius could lead Toyota sales in the U.S.,” noted Ed LaRoque, the Japanese carmaker’s head of hybrid marketing in the U.S., told MSNBC.

Currently, the Prius already accounts for roughly half of hyrbird vehicles sold in the US.  The Prius V is expected to hit the market in October.

After the disaster in Japan, supply dwindled severely.  Toyota recently announced they will be back at full scale by late summer early fall, so clearly this could capitalize on some pent up demand.

MSNBC reports one of the new features with the Prius V will bea "highly energy-efficient “green” audio system, a choice of two different navigation system upgrades and radar-guided cruise control."  All sound very cool.

Within the next year, Toyota will launch the Prius C and their first plug in hybrid.  All good stuff.

Great to hear Toyota is looking forward.  Stay tuned here for the latest Toyota news, and why not swing by West Herr Toyota in Williamsville or Orchard Park and take a test drive.
