Nissan Juke: Believe The Hype
Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 11:35AM Pre Orders for Unique Crossover Outpacing Projections
The Nissan Juke has sparked much discussion over it's design. Nissan is known for their unique designs, especially in the crossover-utility vehicle class, and the Juke is no exception. In Japan, Nissan estimated just under 2000 pre orders prior to launch. They received over 10,000 orders and sold 5000 Jukes in the first week of sales. Now, the Juke and all it's buzz will soon be in America.
"Some vehicles just catch your eye, like the new Nissan Juke, which seemed to draw a crowd wherever we went during a recent drive around Vancouver," said auto columnist Paul Eisenstein, "It will certainly start a lot of conversations."
Aside from the rounded out design, one of the most noticeable features of the Juke are the headlights. The clear plastic blisters you see on the hood are the turn signals; the headlamps actually emerge from the bumper. The Juke even comes with optional foglamps mounted into the lower fascia.![]()
"Everything about the Juke's outward appearance suggests a lively personality," said Popular Mechanics.
The Juke marks Nissan's first use of their 1.6-liter direct injected four-cylinder turbo in North America. It will be available with torque vectoring all-wheel drive in both six-speed manual form and CVT with a sport setting.
The Juke's pricing will also raise some eyebrows in a good way. Nissan says the standard package will be available for under $20,000. A fully loaded juke will be closer to $25,000.
