Get On The Donate Life Bus
Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 10:00AM UNYTS Looking To Go Mobile
The Upstate New York Transplant Services need our help. The UNYTS have launched an online campaign to gain votes as part of the Pepsi Refresh Project. The top vote getter receives a $250,000 grant, which UNYTS will use to purchase the Donate Life Bus, a mobile blood collection vehicle.
"It will increase awareness of organ, tissue & blood donation as it travels to community events, business parks & shopping center," according to the UNYTS section on the Pepsi refresh page. "The Bus will have the ability to collect blood products & perform health screening services."
Cast your vote here and share the link with your friends and family. Currently the UNYTS is 238th in the voting and only the top 2 receive the grant.
The UNYTS started in 1981 and is headquartered in downtown Buffalo. Upstate New York Transplant Services is among the leading procurement organizations in the United States, and is one of the only eight centers nationwide to house organ, tissue and eye procurement in one location.
Within the first five years of existence, UNYTS’ Community Blood Service will have saved local hospitals nearly $20 million; a savings passed on to the Western NY community.
The UNYTS also holds an annual benefit called "Transformations." This year's benefit will take place Saturday November 20th at Asbury Hall in Buffalo. West Herr Jaguar GM Ray Ammerman sang at the the past two years and will return again this year. He promises a lively set this year "if they have a spinal column they'll be dancing."
Here's a video of Ray performing at last year's benefit:
