Roswell Park Using Facebook To Reach President Obama

Cancer Research Institute Gaining Steam With Internet Campaign

The buzz around Buffalo has been all about President Obama's visit to the city on May 13th.  One area institution hoping to get the President's attention is the Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Roswell recently launched a campaing on the social network site Facebook.  The page is appropriately titled "Lets get President Obama to visit Roswell Park Cancer Institute."

Page visitors are leaving messages to President Obama or just voicing their general support for Roswell.   You can join the cause by clicking here.

The page has almost 400 fans in a very short period of time, and that number continues to grow.  Supporters are adamant that Roswell is deserving of a visit from President Obama.  Sample messages left on the Facebook page include:

  • "Roswell is the nation's first Cancer Center and our community of people are dedicated to making a difference in the fight against cancer
  • "Cancer is everywhere. One of President Obama's primary focus is health care. It is a no brainer."
  • "Roswell is an institution that provides wonderful care to patients and their families and a major New York State center for education and economic development."

Channel 2 reported that the Secret Service is currently in town scouting out locations.  The President is also scheduled to visit East Side manufcaturer Industrial Support, Inc. on Depot Street in Buffalo to tour the facilities and discuss the economy.

The Roswell Park Cancer Institute opened in 1898 and was the first medical facility dedicated to cancer research in the United States.  They have the annual Ride for Roswell fundraiser event coming up soon.  Get involved with them here.
