What the heck is a Multi Point Inspection on a Used Car.

One of our customers asked: "When we say that we perform a multi point or 98 point inspection, what does that mean?"

West Herr Multi Point InspectionGreat question. This is an example of us assuming that everyone speaks "Car Talk" jargon. But for the rest of the population, here is what goes on in the service service department before we sell a used car.

In an example where we take a customer’s car on trade, the sales manager of the store typically requests a "Check out". This is where the service department takes a quick look at the car to make sure that is its safe for our employees to drive and to determine if we are going to keep the car for public sale. If the car is not going to be kept we typically take it to auction or have it picked up by a junk yard. Even some of the nicesest cars can fail this inspection because West Herr makes every effort to keep bad cars off our lots.

For the cars we are keeping, we take the next step, and run a full Multi point inspection and perform the needed repairs. This could include replacing the brakes, replacing tires or performing minor paint work. Each car is different, some require only minor detailing. Then we usually change the oil and filter and rotate the tires, then top off the fluids.

Then we create what is called a "Story book" file. This file includes an AutoChecktm vehicle history report (to verify that the car was not in flood or wreck), the repair orders including the multipoint inspection report, among other things. This story book file is available for our customers to review before they buy.

Finally the car is sent to our detail shop for cleanup and finishing touches, this is when we take the pictures of the car and verify the equipment and add a window sticker.

Then the sales manager has the vehicle added to the inventory and it is posted to the web for sale.

A lot going on behind the scenes, huh? Here is a brief video talking about our West Herr Peace of Mind
